Live Webinar/Hybrid Seminar

Dimitrios Mylonadis, Specialised Occupational Therapist

MScOT, BSc(Hons)OT, PGert(Neurosciences), PGDip(Anthropology), Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, UK
Certified Sensory Integration (S.I.) Therapist
Speech Therapy Presentation: Elisavet Kyriakopoulou, M.Sc. CCC-SLP Speech and Language Pathologist

Teaching language: Greek

Topic of live webinar/hybrid seminar:

The internationally recognized specialised occupational therapist Dimitrios Mylonadis, MSc OT, BSc (Hons) OT, PGCert (Neurosciences), PGDip (Anthropology) from the United Kingdom, presents for the fourth year in collaboration with the speLL Center the innovative four-day live webinar (via zoom webinar platform) with a limited number of live participation attendees for  the second part of the seminar (September 28 & 29, 2024).

This is a live webinar/hybrid seminar in which Dyspraxia (Praxis disorder) will be presented through theory and its clinical implications for both assessment and intervention. The complex disorder of Praxis (Dyspraxia) will be analyzed through the lens of Sensory Integration. In this live webinar/hybrid seminar you will have the opportunity to cover the theoretical and neuroanatomical framework of Dyspraxia in a dynamic way and observe the assessment and intervention through video and live real-life cases. The collaboration with speech therapists for the most efficient intervention for children with Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia will be presented by Elisavet Kyriakopoulou, M.Sc. CCC-SLP, Speech and Language Pathologist.

The live webinar/hybrid seminar will be held over four (4) days - two (2) weekends spaced one week apart. The possibility of live participation is given ONLY for the second weekend which covers the practical part of the assessment and intervention (limited places).

Live webinar/hybrid seminar structure:

The live webinar/hybrid seminar is structured in two (2) two-day parts. Participants must attend both parts. The intervening week will be used as a time in which trainees will work individually or in groups for the case study workshop.

ATTENTION: Therapists who have attended the training of A.O. (S.I. 1 & S.I. 2) Assessment and Intervention can only attend the second two days with proof of attendance.

1. First Part (SEPTEMBER 21&22, 2024) - WEBINAR
ONLY ATTENDANCE FOR ALL

Theoretical models, Evaluation, Differential diagnosis

Case study presentation (workshop)

In this first two days, the speaker will analyze in a direct and dynamic way the theoretical background of Praxis disorders and highlight the evidence that leads to the diagnosis of this complex disorder. The trainees will come into contact with the theoretical criteria and clinical features that will allow them in the future to arrive at a safe diagnosis of Praxis disorders. They will also acquire the necessary resources for differential diagnosis in cases where there is co-occurrence with other neurodevelopmental disorders (Autism, ADHD, mental retardation, etc.).

The use of videos with real cases will give the speaker the opportunity to present the evaluation process dynamically. In this way, participants will have the opportunity to approach the assessment dynamically and present their ideas. In addition, they will be able to understand how Praxis relates to the overall development of children.

At the end of the first two days, the case study that will be the topic of the workshop will be presented.

2. Part Two (SEPTEMBER 28&29, 2024) - WEBINAR ATTENDANCE and LIVE ATTENDANCE option for limited places

Clinical Intervention, Designing a therapeutic program, Implementation, Collaboration with speech therapists, Recommendations

Workshop: Case study analysis and participants' presentations

In the second two days, the intervention approach and targeting will be shaped - based on the theory presented in the first part - practically under the expert guidance of the speaker. Participants will have the opportunity to watch real cases showing evidence of dyspraxia with or without the presence of another neurodevelopmental disorder in a video presented by the speaker.

Through the joint analysis of the cases and with the dynamic guidance of the speaker, the trainees will become familiar with all the stages of the intervention process (preparation of a therapeutic program, targeting, implementation, instructions / recommendations) and will be able to present their ideas.

In the framework of the workshop, the case study will be analyzed and the trainees will present their own proposals.

In addition, there will be a separate presentation of Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia with ideas and ways of integrating speech therapy goals for children with Developmental Verbal Dyspraxia in the context of Sensory Integration by   Elisavet Kyriakopoulou, M.Sc. CCC-SLP ,Speech and Language Pathologist.

In order to impart knowledge in the best possible way, the live webinar will include:

  • presentations by the keynote speaker and guest speaker

  • presentations of real incidents through video and with live incidents in the field

  • assessment and intervention planning in incidents presented via video

  • presentations by the participants

  • practical applications for home and school

The innovative live webinar/hybrid seminar structure will provide trainees with all the theoretical and clinical tools to guide theory-based clinical decisions and the design of evidence-based treatment programs for children with dyspraxia or signs of Praxis disorder.

Objectives of live webinar/hybrid seminar:

Upon completion of the webinar/hybrid seminar, the trainees will be able to:

recognize the basic elements of Praxis in terms of Ideation, Motor Planning and Execution.

  • understand the neuro-anatomical correlates of Praxis

  • place Praxis within the context of Sensory Integration and modern neurosciences

  • assess deficits in Practice in children who present various neurodevelopmental disorders (Autism, ADHD, etc.).

  • plan and organize effective treatment programs based on modern research

  • inform parents and other specialists about their clinical decisions in a communicative manner, as well as collaborate with other specialists for the most effective management of children with Dyspraxia

  • improve their clinical skills in the areas of assessment and intervention
